May Aldermanic Briefing
Aldermanic elections will take place on 18/19 June in the wards of Dowgate and Vintry. A hybrid briefing will be held on Monday 19 May at 5:30pm for all those interested in standing in this election. If you wish to attend in person, we will be in Room 10, North Wing, Guildhall or remotely via Teams.

To qualify for the office of Alderman a person must be:
- aged 18 years or over
- a British, Irish or Commonwealth Citizen
- an able and sufficient citizen and Freeman of the City of London (see more information)
- not already an Alderman of another Ward
- not be disqualified for any other reason, for example, by reason of bankruptcy or on conviction of fraud or any crime for which a prison sentence has been imposed
and must either be:
- a justice of the peace or
- A person is qualified for office of Alderman provided that they are not or have never been: i. convicted of an imprisonable offence (even if they were not actually Imprisoned or the conviction has been spent) and ii. the subject of a debt relief restrictions order or interim debt relief restrictions order, a bankruptcy restrictions order or interim order, or a debt relief restrictions undertaking. There is no requirement to reside within the Ward for which he or she seeks election and no requirement that a person is an owner or occupier of premises within the City.
The nomination papers and other forms and information regarding the election will be available from the Electoral Services Office at Guildhall shortly before the start of the election as part of a candidate pack. They will also be made available online at https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/about-us/voting-elections/forthcoming-elections
It is important to understand that if a potential candidate does not submit valid nomination papers before the deadline then they cannot stand in that election.
Ward Lists will need to be requested from the Electoral Services team. A disclaimer for signing is available with the nomination packs and needs to be completed before we can supply a ward list to you.
